On the eve of America’s 250th birthday, Alexander Armstrong is heading into the heartlands of the country that has shaped the world like no other. He’s going to be leaving Time Square and the tourist trail behind, going off-road to meet some of the weird and wonderful people who make up the so-called Land of the Free.
From the hard-bitten streets of Philadelphia, to the mountain land of West Virginia’s self-professed hillbillies: from the secretive Amish farmlands, to the secret worlds beneath Las Vegas’ neon-lit strip - Alexander will be taking the Midwest by storm, with some good old fashioned British charm and wit.
He’ll be singing for his supper (literally) in Pennsylvania and visiting the otherworldly plains of Utah; earning his keep on the old American railroad and topping up his tan in the sunshine state Florida. From sea to shining sea, he’ll experience joy, surprise, danger and a lot of strangeness in one of the most beautiful, inspring and fearsome countries in the world.
